Trudy: They find it hard to grasp some things that come easy to us, because they simply don’t have our frame of
reference. I show ‘em this can of Campbell’s tomato soup.

I say, “This is soup.”

Then I show ‘em a picture of Andy Warhol’s painting of a can of Campbell’s tomato soup.

I say, “This is art.”

“This is soup.”

“And this is art.”

Then I shuffle the two behind my back.

Now what is this?

No, this is soup and this is art!

That is a moment from the play “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe” by Jane Wagner. Trudy is a
bag lady who is playing tour guide to some visitors from outer space.  Oddly enough, I share this with you because
this month I want to discuss my friends at The Holistic Studies Institute in Albany, NY and tell you about our featured
article this month.  How does this all come together? Stay tuned.

Those of you that visit our website know that I have visited H.S.I. for my first psychic fair and my first séance. You can
read about it in our Online Exclusive section, which is where I write about personal experiences. Recently they invited
me to a very special workshop about Kirlian photography. Of course I asked if I could write about my experiences
and as always they gave me permission. The evening was so informative, entertaining, and enlightening that I have
done the thing I never thought I would do. I wrote this month’s featured article. That evening Jim and I got to spend a
lot of time just talking to the people who are a part of The Holistic Studies Institute. There was a lot of laughter and
fun. At one point in the evening I leaned over to my husband and told him, “H.S.I. is soup, the people who make up H.
S.I. are art.” He knew what I meant.

At the end of the play, Trudy tries to give her alien friends the experience of having goose bumps. She decides to
take them to a play.

Trudy: Did I tell you what happened at the play? We were at the back of the theater, standing there in the dark, all of
a sudden I feel one of ‘em tug on my sleeve, whispers, “Trudy, look.” I said, “Yeah, goose bumps. You definitely got
goose bumps. You really like the play that much?” They said it wasn’t the play gave ‘em goose bumps, it was the

I forgot to tell ‘em to watch the play; they’d been watching the audience!

Yeah, to see a group of strangers sitting together in the dark, laughing and crying about the same things….that just
knocked ‘em out.

They said, “Trudy, the play was soup….the audience….art.”

I’d like to give a very special thank you to The Holistic Studies Institute in Albany, NY. I hope you enjoy our article.

Best Wishes to all our friends,

Kirlian Photography by Rebecca

I recently visited my friends at The Holistic Studies Institute in Albany, NY for an evening workshop about Kirlian
photography.  As usual, everyone there was fantastic and an absolute joy to be with, but that night was about their
special guest, Al Hulstrunk and his Kirlian device.

It's OK we're taking it back: The Swastika

Yes, it is true; the swastika is going to be forever etched in most people’s minds as a symbol of the Nazi movement. It
is a true tragedy considering how much this symbol has to offer humanity. Before the swastika was hijacked by Hitler
to become the Hakenkreuz (hooked cross) it was living a peaceful life providing luck and good fortune to millions of
people. This may seem awkward to say, but join me in opening your hearts to the swastika.

Profile: The Grey School of Wizardry

Once upon a time, actually not that long ago, a Wizard lived in the mythical land of Norcalifia, where he enjoyed
spending time with family in a natural setting, working on his art, and studying wizardry. Many other magickal folk
visited him on his land. Most of the visitors were adults, but several brought along children who they were raising in
the grand tradition of magick. It gave the Wizard pause, and one night he began thinking about how hard it must be
for youngsters to study magick in a decidedly “mundane” world. Then and there, he resolved to do something to
bring children closer to the wonders of magick and wizardry. His first step was to write a sort of “handbook,” the
Grimoire for the Apprentice Wizard.

Magical Buffet Mythology: Tanit

Did the people of Carthage sacrifice babies to Tanit? Is that really all there is to the Patron deity of Carthage? An
online search says, “Yes, it really is.” To that I say, in my best Fozzie the Bear voice, “For shame.”
